What type of canoes weigh the least? I am interested in buying a canoe. I need to make sure that my wife and I can easily carry it. I'm not looking to spend the money required to get a kevlar or carbon canoe. Should I look at canoes that are made of aluminum, plastic or fiberglass if weight is a big concern?
How many rafts and canoes were used? On a field trip, a year level of one hundred ninety-five students were about to cross to the other side of the river at the same time. Seven water transports, forty-five-passenger rafts and five-passenger canoes, were to be used.

Why are canoes and kayaks pointed at both ends? It seems like you could trim a couple feet off the back end and have it flat. That would make the boat lighter in weight and shorter - easier to transport to and from a waterway. Is there some advantage to having both ends points on these kinds of boats?
Does anybody know anything about Terry brand canoes? From the very little information I could find they stopped making boats in 1982 but beyond that I cannot find a website with further information. If anybody out there owns or has information on Terry canoes I would be very thankful.
Two canoeists in identical canoes exert the same effort paddling ? and hence maintain the same speed relative to the water. One paddles directly upstream (and moves upstream), whereas the other paddles directly downstream. With downstream as the positive direction, an observer on shore determines the velocities of the two canoes to be -1.2 m/s and +2.9 m/s, respectively. (a) What is the speed of the water relative to shore? m/s (b) What is the speed of each canoe relative to the water? m/s
Why do they still make canoes if they're so unsafe? They roll over so damned easy it's not funny. I'm sure it might not be a big deal on a warm lake when everybody is wearing life jackets or in some rivers where the shore is not far away, but I see people take canoes out here on Puget sound. The water is so cold and the currents so strong, if you fall in, you're dead in less than 20 minutes. Seems to me there are better alternatives (like inflatables) than those incredibly unstable pieces of crap. I'm not saying we should "ban" canoes, but since there are safer alternatives now, shouldn't manufacturers sorta move on to better technology? Yes, cars are unsafe, but the driver and riders are protected from all sides, and even if you get in a fender-bender, the chances of people being totally fine are very high. With a canoe, all it takes is a speedboat to go by and make some big waves and if you're not really fast to turn your canoe into the waves, you better be praying hard. It feels more like walking on a tight rope. The reason I ask this is because I have seen 3 people die (out of stupidity of course). They were crabbing and when I saw 4 of them get into this tiny boat with barely 3 inches of freeboard, I said to myself OMG that is insane. I watched them push off. An hour later I drove by and the Coastguard chopper was looking for them. 3 died 1 lived (the kid) . I still feel somewhat guilty for not stopping them.
Are canoes capable of sea touring? I am thinking of taking up canoeing. However, being open boats are they capable of going on the sea safely? I know that kayaks (closed) are great for sea touring - but wasn't sure from what I've read so far whether the same applies to canoes. Generally what are the pros and cons of canoes versus kayaks? Many thanks.

Does anyone have a knowledge on Classic Tyne Sports 2 seater canoes? I found this one on ebay and thought maybe it was a collectible as i read somewhere they were worth about £600 - £800 in reasonable condition and even more in good condition. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130291945243&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en
we have been given 2 plastic canoes, however they need repair.? Does anyone know what material we could use to repair 2 plastic canoes. they are coming apart at the seams. plastic welding would be too expensive, but is there some material that would adhere to the plastic to repair them, eg fibreglass, waterproofing compound. thanks
Will Two Canoes Make A Good Katamaran? I am building a commuter boat with two engines for cruising across a large harbour (5 miles wide). To make my first prototype, I was thinking about buying two identical canoes, connecting them with a platform, keep about 1m of space between them, and put two seats onto the platform. Speed would be about 10 knots max, and the water quite still (harbour). The boat's upper body will be a tent tarp over fibreglass rods, like an igloo tent. Will that cruise and maneuver OK, or am I going to be in trouble? Thanks.
What are the french canoes called? Well I always see in movies/shows/cartoons those canoes where a boy and a girl sit in it and the french person in the back standing rowing the boat, I am wondering what they are called so i can look up pictures because I want to draw them for an assignment in art class
Are Pelican canoes a good buy? I need to know if they are protected against extreme sun exposure and if there is anything I should look for before purchasing one.
How would i go about canoeing from Manchester to Hertfordshire using canals? I own two canoes, and all going to plan, this summer 4 of us will be canoeing down to Herts from Manchester. It is physically do-able using canals. But we're wondering what laws/ licences would hold us back? Obviously this is going to take a lot of planning but i was just wondering if anyone could outline the details about how to go about it. i.e. what water licence would we need? are we even allowed to do it? etc thankyou thankyou!
What kind of canoe do I need for river with rapids? I'm going on a trip this year and am needing a canoe to use on the White River. I hear that there are some pretty good rapids on this river so I'm needing a canoe that can withstand this type of stress. Can anyone suggest what kind of canoe I should buy, length and cost of this particular type of canoe ? I have roughly $400 to spend total. I would also be interested in how to obtain a canoe for this price. I have friends that tell me to try canoe rentals for their used and out of service canoes. Is this a good idea ? Thanks a bunch.
Do you like riding outrigger canoes/boats? Doesn't it make you seek? Or do you feel like you are so relaxed and grateful for the water on the river Erratum: Doesn't it make you sick? Errr seek a bottle of pills so you won't feel sick (Ewwww)
How do you feel about sailing out to the Great Barrier Reef in a giant 'Outrigger Canoe'? The 'Outrigger Canoe' is intended to be a modern version of the outrigger canoes that populated the South Pacific. It'll be 30 metres long, driven by non polluting clean wind energy, the fastest big sail boat around and will operate from the Whitsundays or Cairns. The crew will be indigenous and white, young, fun and musical, the food will be harvested from the sea and and the drinks will be tropical. We'd love to know what you think. Thanks.
How does a "foam roof pad" for carrying a canoe work? I want to hire a canoe when I go camping next week, and the website says they offer: "Dwellingup Adventures provide thick foam pads that allow most cars to carry one canoe. Carrying of the canoes is entirly at the vehicle owners risk." I emailed them about it, but they didn't answer my question, they just gave me delivery costs (which are really quite expensive), so I was wondering if anyone has ever encountered a similar kind of "foam pad" for carrying canoes? How do they work, and can they be used on a normal sedan car? So how do you keep the canoe on there? What do you tie it to? (wow, I feel stupid now, but I seriously dont get how you can just *tie* it on the car) So how do you keep the canoe on there? What do you tie it to? is it possible to sleep in a canoe on an extended trip? not a kayak obviously, but one of those roomier, open canadian type touring canoes? At 17ft long and 38" wide it ought to be possible to sleep in it overnight. But you would need some kind of cover. Does anyone know if this is done?
If I want to ship, say a big canoe (25 kg), from the States to the UK what is the best way to go about? Most companies, selling canoes and small boats, in the States only ship in the States. Thus I need to organise a personal shipment; and that is my problem. The canoe I want to buy is manufactured in Germany, exported to the States and sold for, depending on the exchange rate, for more-or-less 2 times cheaper than in the UK… beats me how it’s done but its true! If I spend £400 (which is pretty much) on shipment it will still be cheaper to do so than to buy it in the UK! It’s crazy!
Find the magnitude of the velocity of the canoe relative to the river? A canoe has a velocity of 0.340 m/s southeast relative to the earth. The canoe is on a river that is flowing 0.570 m/s east relative to the earth. Find the direction of the velocity of the canoe relative to the river. Express your answer as an angle measured south of west. Can't seem to get the answer correctly.

What is the best place for an overnight canoe trip in central VA? I want to go on a one night canoe trip. I have done a few sections of the James, my favorite is the Balcony Falls run. If I did this section again, would it be better to start above it, or go past it in order to make the total trip about 25 miles? If you have another suggestion, I am more than open to it.
How do I get my blanket to stop "canoeing"? I just recently picked up crocheting to make my first born a baby blanket. However the blanket is starting to "canoe". It is starting to frustrate me and I want to pull the whole blanket apart.
What should i bring when canoeing down the river and camping there for the weekend? I want to go camping down the Peace River in Florida for the weekend but I'm not sure what I would need to bring because my friends and I would be canoeing most of the way. So I have to be careful about getting our stuff wet. Is there any advice on what items to bring and how not to get everything wet (although it'll probably happen because you're in water lol).
