why are canoes effective for traveling in the Everglades?

i have a project to do on the Everglades i also have another question.... What method of transportation do you think would be most effective in the Everglades? Why? i thought canoes were because the Calusa used them for traveling but i wanted to make sure i was right.

  1. The Everglades is a giant swamp with varying water depths. Canoes are good for use in the Everglades because they are narrow and have a very shallow draft. Also, they are "double-headed" so if one goes in a narrow passage, but it becomes impassable, one can just turn around in the canoe and paddle out. Most shallow draft boats are effective in the Everglades. The airboat is very effective because it is fast, has a long range, has a shallow draft, a fairly large cargo capacity and can even travel over land if necessary. Canoes are smaller, more maneuverable, cheaper, quieter, can be carried across land, and doesn't require fuel.
